Microsoft reçoit l'ordre de retirer des fonctionnalités brevetées de Longhorn

14 avril 2005 -- Un tribunal américain a ordonné à Microsoft de retirer des fonctionnalités de la future version de son système d'exploitation Windows. Les brevets en question revendiquent très largement tout procédé pour répartir des processus dans un environnement réseau. Un brevet de même nature est déposé auprès de l'Office européen des brevets.

    Revendication 1. Un dispositif pour transférer de l'information entre un réseau et une unité de stockage, ce dispositif comprenant : un ordinateur hôte disposant d'une unité de calcul assurant la gestion d'un système de fichiers, une mémoire hôte connectée à ladite unité de calcul par un bus mémoire et un dispositif d'interface couplé audit ordinateur, au réseau et à l'unité de stockage, le dispositif d'interface mentionné comprenant une mémoire d'interface contenant un fichier d'interface cache adapté pour stocker les données qui transitent entre le réseau et l'unité de stockage, lorsque ledit fichier d'interface cache est contrôlé par ledit système de fichiers.

An apparatus for transferring information between a network and a storage unit, the apparatus comprising: a host computer having a CPU operating a file system and a host memory connected to said CPU by a host memory bus, and an interface device coupled to said host computer, to the network and to the storage unit, said interface device including an interface memory containing an interface file cache adapted to store data that is communicated between the network and the storage unit, wherein said interface file cache is controlled by said file system.
